Schools throughout Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board are hosting a variety of events, presentations, assemblies and activities to raise awareness of bullying prevention.

Elementary Schools

Events for

November 17-23, 2013
Bird's Creek Public School
  • School-wide assembly about kindness and taking care of the school community.
  • Classroom door decorating contest.
  • We All Fit Together bulletin board consisting of puzzle pieces of student artwork.
  • Pink Shirt Wednesday to promote acceptance and inclusivity.

Harry J. Clarke Public School
  • The week will focus on promoting acceptance, diversity and inclusion.
  • Creation of learning journey portfolios by all students where each person reflects on their actions, leading to development of healthy habits.
  • Student-created bulletin about acceptance, diversity, and positive steps to reduce bullying behaviours.
  • Restorative circles with students in the Destinations Programme on the topic of reducing bullying through social media.
Hermon Public School
  • School-wide assembly about kindness and taking care of the school community.

Madoc Public School
  • The school focus continues to be on the role of the upstander and what each person can do to end bullying.

  • Student and staff participation in the Student Wellness & Bullying Awareness Leadership session at the Education Centre on Wednesday, November 20.

Massassaga-Rednersville Public School
  • "Working together as one, we can stop bullying!"

North Trenton Public School
  • Performance of "Wired" for students in Grades 3 to 8.
  • All staff will wear purple "Be Kind to Me" T-shirts.
  • Poster contest for all grades: Stand Up, Be a Friend (Primary); Stand Up for Friends (Junior); and Love is Louder (Intermediate).
  • School-wide anti-bullying pledge by all students.
  • Safe, Caring, Respectful & Inclusive mottos developed by each class.
Park Dale School
  • Classes will hold a community circle each day focused on the themes of kindness, friendship, and empathy. Sample prompts include: 1) What does it mean to be kind? 2) Tell us about a time that you have been kind to someone else? 3) How does it make you feel when someone does a kind gesture? 4) Give an example of a time when someone has been kind to you? 5) What makes you unique and important?
  • Students and staff members will recognize others for good deeds using "Warm Fuzzy" tickets. Random "Warm Fuzzy" tickets will be read on the announcements during the week.
  • All students and staff will be provided with a hand-made friendship bracelet made by our intermediate students. Students will be told to touch it when they need to think positive thoughts.
  • We will be holding a kick-off assembly on Monday morning for all students (Kindergarten to Grade 8) which will be led by our PALs students. The assembly will focus on building empathy, friendship and promoting kindness.
  • On Friday, four students on our Safe and Accepting Schools committee will be trained to facilitate a Speak Up forum for our intermediates. Our goal is to seek student's ideas on what will help strengthen our school community.
  • These students will run a Speak Up Forum for 20 intermediate students on Monday, November 18, which will focus on student engagement and ways to continue to promote a positive school culture at Park Dale School.
Prince of Wales Public School
  • Celebrate the Hero parent sessions for all students with Nick Foley on Tuesday, November 19.
  • Students will create posters and public service announcements related to bullying awareness.
  • Literacy connections in all classrooms during the week. Flyer about school and home activities.
Queen Elizabeth Public School (Trenton)
  • Performance of "Wired" for students in Grades 3 to 8.
