Moira Secondary School students excelled in a series of exams created by International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools.

Final results of those exams show Moira students to be consistently above the world average. In May 2013, students' results were 13% above the world standard. This year, Moira's school average in all subjects topped the IB World Schools average by 10%, and in individual subjects led the world average by as much as 26%.

"I am very proud of our graduates and am not surprised by these results. All of our graduates were accepted into their first choice university, including Harvard College in Boston. Each year we have an exceptional group of IB students who genuinely care about their education and also care about making a difference in the world. Their IB results, as well as the more than $500,000 in scholarships and awards they were offered, are two examples of how amazing they are," said Cindy Cooper, IB Coordinator at Moira Secondary School.

The IB program is a rigorous course of study available at Moira which provides students in their final two years of secondary school an enriched learning environment and the opportunity to gain several university credits. After studying six subjects intensively over two years, potential graduates complete assessments and write final exams which are marked externally. Each subject can be taken at Higher Level (3 semesters of study) or Standard Level (2 semesters of study). Subjects studied at Higher Level are equal to a first year university course at universities in Canada and throughout the world.

The IB Diploma Programme for students in Grades 11 and 12, and the IB Foundations Programme for students in Grades 9 and 10, continue to grow each year: 18 students will complete IB exams in May 2015 and 26 students will complete IB exams in May 2016.
