In the fall of 2014, a survey was conducted with parents/guardians of students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 to determine the potential interest in expanding French Immersion or Extended French programs in Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. Three regions where programs are not currently in place were considered: Centre Hastings, Prince Edward County and Trenton.

NEW FRENCH IMMERSION PROGRAM IN PICTON (ONLY)

We are pleased to advise that based on the analysis of surveys from Prince Edward County schools, a new French Immersion Program will be offered at Queen Elizabeth School in Picton for Grade 4 students, beginning in September 2015, subject to sufficient enrolment.

At this time, new programs in Centre Hastings and Trenton will not be introduced in September 2015 based on the analysis of the surveys. The survey data will be considered as part of long-term program planning in these regions.

EXISTING PROGRAMS WILL CONTINUE

French Immersion will continue to be offered for students in Grades 4 -8 at Bayside Public School and Harry J. Clarke Public School. For students in Grades 9 - 12, French Immersion will continue to be offered at Bayside Secondary School. Extended French for students in Grades 5 - 8 will continue to be offered at York River Public School in Bancroft.

We wish to thank all parents/guardians who were able to complete French Immersion/Extended French surveys. Your willingness to provide input about programs and services that support student achievement and well-being in Hastings Prince Edward District School Board is appreciated.
