Wednesday April 8, 2015 marks the 7 Annual Pink Shirt Day at Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.

This year, students, employees and families from 30 HPEDSB schools have purchased a total of 3,300 HPEDSB-designed pink T-shirts featuring the "it"s all about inclUSion" slogan.

On Pink Shirt Day, students and employees throughout our school district, whether they have purchased this year"s T-shirt or not, will wear pink to demonstrate our shared belief in the power of celebrating diversity and acceptance.

By wearing pink, we also acknowledge and offer support for the ongoing efforts to increase awareness of bullying prevention initiatives, the work of school teams, and the role-modeling provided by all student leaders in our schools.

The Student Senate was involved in publicizing Pink Shirt Day and T-shirt sales in their schools. Many student senators are members of the school leadership team that has worked to sell and distribute pink shirts. Thank you to Victoria and Hanna, student senators from Moira Secondary School, who helped to sort and bundle the 3,300 T-shirts for shipping to schools!

Creative minds on the Student Senate came up with the #pinkmakeityours hashtag.

Anyone wearing pink is encouraged to take pictures of themselves in pink T-shirts they have decorated, modified, or accessorized to "make it yours" and post the picture to Twitter and/or Instagram. The message is that, no matter how different our shirts might look individually, we are all included in the community of pink shirt-wearers.

Some of the events planned to bring awareness to Pink Shirt Day include pink cupcake bake sales, pink "graffiti walls" for positive messages and having pink balloons decorate foyers.
