The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) is the agency responsible for standardized testing in Ontario. EQAO assessments measure student achievement in reading, writing and mathematics in relation to Ontario Curriculum expectations.
The tests were scheduled to take place between May 25 and June 5, 2015 in all Grade 3 and Grade 6 classes. EQAO has advised that they will not be sending assessment materials to schools that are experiencing job action. This includes Hastings and Prince Edward schools, as well as all other elementary schools in the English-language public system

Province-wide job action by elementary teachers
This is provide important information about the status of provincial labour negotiations, specifically with respect to elementary teachers.
Collective agreements for all teachers in Ontario expired at the end of August 2014. Meetings to negotiate new contracts have been taking place between the provincial government, unions and the Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA), which represents public school boards at the provincial table, for a number of months.
Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) has received official notice from the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) that it intends to begin provincial strike action on Monday, May 11, 2015. It is our understanding that teachers will begin an administrative work to rule campaign.
It is important for you to know that all HPEDSB elementary schools will be open as normal on Monday, May 11, 2015.
While we have not yet received details, we anticipate that planned teacher job actions may include not performing duties related to the EQAO test and/or not participating in professional development activities that are provincially directed.
HPEDSB believes in, and is committed to, the collective bargaining process, and values all employees for their commitment to student achievement and well-being. We remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached soon.
