Tentative agreement reached for HPEDSB and occasional teachers
Posted on 12/02/2021

A tentative collective agreement has been reached between the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB), and the Hastings Prince Edward Occasional Teachers' Local (HAPE-OTL).

The agreement, for approximately 200 occasional elementary teachers, is from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2022. No details will be made public until it is voted on by teachers and the Board of Trustees in late January 2022.

Quotes

"Both teams negotiated for a lengthy period of time to come to agreeable terms. Their commitment to the process demonstrates their willingness to achieve common goals. Our elementary occasional teachers are essential in educating students. We appreciate their contributions to student achievement and well-being, and to being consistently available, sometimes on very short notice." Lucille Kyle, Chair of the Board

"This agreement comes at a time of budget cuts across the province in education. Greater needs in the education sector require more funding and our education workers are being asked to do more for less. The agreement helps to address some of the concerns of our members. I would like to thank both the school board and our own local team for all their support in reaching the agreement we have." Doug Thur, President, Hastings and Prince Edward Occasional Teachers Local
