Posted on 12/08/2021

December 8, 2021-Director of Education Katherine MacIver shared a letter today with families at Marmora Public School about the school closing due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Read more below.

Dear Families:

On December 6, 2021 a COVID-19 outbreak was declared at Marmora Public School by Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH). At Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB), we work closely with HPEPH to ensure student and school safety. We recognize that a COVID-19 outbreak at a school may cause concern.

Since the outbreak was declared, additional positive COVID-19 cases at the school have been identified without a known link. As a result, under the direction of HPEPH, Marmora Public School will be temporarily closed effective December 9, 2021 to allow the outbreak investigation to be completed. HPEDSB and HPEPH have made the decision to keep the school closed until January 3, 2022. Starting tomorrow, December 9, 2021, all classes at Marmora Public School will transition to remote learning. In-person learning will not be available.

HOW YOUR CHILD WILL ACCESS REMOTE LEARNING
Your child's teacher will be in contact with you on December 9 about accessing remote learning.

STUDENTS' PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Anyone needing to pick up their child's personal belongings to have over the holidays should talk with their child's teacher.

We recognize the short notice of this decision and appreciate your understanding. HPEPH will provide further direction to all students and staff regarding symptom monitoring and isolation or testing, if required.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher or principal.

Sincerely,

Katherine MacIver
Director of Education
