Home-School Connections: ideas to enhance student learning at home, March 2019

Each month, school newsletters include a one-page insert called Home-School Connections. It describes ways in which families can enhance student learning at home in the areas of literacy; numeracy; healthy, caring schools and improving student learning.

This month's Home-School Connections (Pdf) features:

    • Take your child to local art exhibits, theatrical presentations, and musical and dance performances. Check out the events listings at the public library, community centres, galleries
      and concert halls in your area. Such experiences help children develop:
      • creativity
      • an understanding of multiple

      • empathy
      • emotional intelligence
      • self-expression and
      • communication
      • reflection and well-being
  • Caring, Inclusive Citizens
    • Students who are caring, inclusive citizens demonstrate strong character in all they say and do by showing empathy and expressing genuine concern for self, others and the environment.
    • Discuss with your child:
      • What does the graphic in the center mean to you?
      • What some ways are that you can demonstrate respect toward others?
      • How are you already demonstrating social awareness (understanding and responding to the needs of others)?

    • read & write for Google Chrome is a browser extension that provides access for all students to assistive tools for spelling, reading and writing skills, not only at school, but at home too!
