Posted on 03/01/2018

Each month, school newsletters include a one-page insert called Home-School Connections. It describes ways in which families can enhance student learning at home in the areas of literacy; numeracy; healthy, caring schools and improving student learning.

This month's Home-School Connections (pdf file) features:

  • Physical: A variety of virtual manipulatives are available on mathies.ca. Manipulatives are a useful tool to help students construct their understanding of concepts through meaningful investigation.
  • Cognitive: Free online math help is available for students in Grade 7 to 10, offering registered users access to real‐time one‐on‐one tutoring with an Ontario certified teacher.
  • Emotional: Inspiring Your Child to Learn and Love Math. When students understand mathematics, they are equipped with knowledge they can bring to every aspect of their lives. The Parent Tool Kit provides parents with resources to support their child's education.
  • Social: Math games are one way for students to focus on building an understanding of math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, rather than strict memorization.
