Home-School Connections: ideas to enhance student learning at home, March 2017

Each month, school newsletters include a one-page insert called Home-School Connections. It describes ways in which families can enhance student learning at home in the areas of literacy; numeracy; healthy, caring schools and improving student learning.

This month's Home-School Connections (Pdf file) features:

  • Literacy: Wordless picture books gives children the power to name, describe, predict and discover. It is important to ask questions during reading and notice how illustrations help us read the story through images.
  • Numeracy: Encourage a Growth Mindset in Math. Teaching a growth mindset creates motivation and productivity.
  • Healthy, Caring Schools: Students who are caring, inclusive citizens demonstrate strong character in all they say and do by showing empathy and expressing genuine concern for self, others and the environment.
  • Improving Student Learning: Students who are digitally fluent can effectively use multiple technologies. They are responsible in their use, creation and sharing of information with others.
