International Baccalaureate students at Moira Secondary exceed world standard by 13%

In May 2013, Moira Secondary School students participated in a series of exams created by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization. More significant, though, is the fact that they excelled on the exams.
The IB program is a rigorous course of study which provides students with an enriched learning environment and the opportunity to gain several university credits while in their final two years of secondary school. The program is hosted at Moira Secondary School. After studying six subjects intensively over two years, potential graduates write final exams which are marked externally. Each subject can be taken at Higher Level (3 semesters of study) or Standard Level (2 semesters of study).
Exam results showed Moira students to be consistently far above the world average. The school average in all subjects topped the world average by 13%, and in individual subjects led the world average by as much as 21%.
Cindy Cooper, IB Coordinator at Moira Secondary, was interviewed about these marks saying, "I am very proud of our graduates and am not surprised by these results. All of our graduates were accepted into their first choice university. Each year we have an exceptional group of IB students who genuinely care about their education and also care about making a difference in the world. This is just one example of how amazing they are."
Two Grade 12 IB Diploma students who had excellent results writing their first IB Exam last year in SL Mathematics are also proud of the IB Diploma Programme.
Student Mel Novakovic said, "From field trips to academic success to class discussions, IB is a programme that makes you a more well rounded individual. As a bonus you are part of a family."
Student Laura Hatt said, "Last year's IB results demonstrate all the hard work the students dedicate to the program and the dedication of the teachers to help every student do their best."
Both students are very proud of their results and the results of all the 2013 IB graduating class.
Moira`s next set of IB examinations will take place in May 2014.
